About Us

We at Home Instead Lewes District and Uckfield are proud to offer compassionate home care across Lewes and the surrounding communities of East Sussex, supporting people to live well and safely in the place they love most: their own home.

Operating throughout the Lewes district, Uckfield, and the wider BN postcode area, our care reaches into the familiar surroundings of each person we support. Rather than asking individuals to adjust to a new environment, we bring trusted, consistent care directly to where memories live, where favourite armchairs sit by the window, and where gardens, neighbours, and routines provide comfort and continuity. This community based approach allows us to support people across the towns, villages, and rural corners of this beautiful part of the South East.

Our care is tailored to a wide range of needs. We specialise in older person care and dementia care, providing patient, respectful support for those navigating memory loss and the changes that come with later life. We also support younger adults and people living with learning disabilities or autism, mental health needs, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairment. In practice, this means our visits are shaped around the individual rather than a fixed template. For one person, that might mean help with personal care, medication prompts, and a friendly chat over a cup of tea. For another, it might involve supporting independence in the community, accompanying someone to appointments, or providing reassurance and routine for a family member living with dementia. For families, this flexibility offers something invaluable: confidence that a loved one is being looked after by people who genuinely know them.

The Care Quality Commission has rated us Good overall, with Good ratings across the Safe, Effective, Caring, and Responsive domains. This independent assessment reflects the warmth and professionalism our care professionals bring to every visit. The Well-led domain was rated as Requires Improvement at the last inspection, and we take such feedback seriously as part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening every aspect of how we operate. For families, the broader picture is reassuring: care that has been recognised as safe, effective, and genuinely caring by the national regulator.

Choosing home care can feel like a significant step, and we understand the questions and worries that often come with it. Whether you are exploring options for yourself, a parent, or another loved one, we would be glad to talk things through at your own pace, answer your questions honestly, and help you understand what good home care in Lewes and Uckfield can look like. Please do reach out whenever you feel ready; we are here to listen.

What the inspectors found

A plain English summary of the Care Quality Commission inspection behind the current rating of Home Instead Lewes District and Uckfield. Report published 21 February 2019.

  • 14 and 18 December 2018
  • First assessment of the service

Safe

Inspectors found that care givers understood safeguarding and knew what to do if they thought someone was at risk of abuse. Recruitment checks were thorough, and risk assessments covered people's homes and individual needs. The organisation had found recording errors in medicine management and had taken action, but inspectors said more time was needed to see if this had worked.

Effective

Inspectors found that care givers had a thorough induction and regular training. Spot checks were carried out at regular intervals to monitor their performance. The owner and staff understood their responsibilities under the Mental Capacity Act, and people were supported to have choice and control in the least restrictive way possible.

Caring

Inspectors found that care givers showed kindness and knew people well. They understood people's physical, social and emotional needs.

Responsive

Inspectors found that care plans gave staff detailed advice on how to meet people's needs, and people said they had been involved in them. People knew how to complain, but everyone said they had no need to. Inspectors found that record keeping about complaints and some parts of care plans lacked detail, and they made a recommendation to improve this.

Well-led

CQC rated this area Requires improvement. Inspectors said record keeping in some areas lacked detail and recommended it be improved. They found effective systems to monitor and review the quality of care. The owner knew these systems would need to develop further as the service grew, and the technology for this was being put in place.

What people told the inspectors

People said they had continuity of care givers. They said care givers always arrived on time, stayed for their allocated time and completed the tasks asked of them, along with any extra requests.
