About Us
We are Good Companions Care at Home, and we visit people where they live, in houses and flats across Carlisle and the surrounding parts of Cumberland.
The people we support are mainly older adults, though we also work with younger adults whose needs are every bit as individual. Some are living with dementia, some with a physical disability that has made everyday tasks harder, and some with mental health needs that come and go in ways calling for patience rather than a fixed plan. What they share is a wish to stay at home, and our part in that is to make it a realistic choice rather than a hopeful one.
A visit from us might involve help with washing and dressing, prompting or giving medication, preparing meals, keeping on top of the house, or getting out to an appointment or the shops. Often the most valuable part is the least clinical part, which is the conversation. We try to send the same small group of people to each person we support, because care given by somebody who already knows how you take your tea is a different experience from care given by a stranger.
