    • Home Care

We at Care Forum (MK) are proud to provide compassionate home care across Milton Keynes and the surrounding communities, supporting people to live well in the place they know best: their own home. Our person centred approach places each individual at the heart of everything we do, delivering tailored support that respects independence, dignity, and daily routine. Operating throughout the MK postcode area and into Central Bedfordshire, our team is well placed to reach families across the region. Because we come to you, the environment of care is your own familiar space, whether that is a family home, a supported living setting, or independent accommodation. We understand how important it is for people to remain surrounded by their belongings, memories, and neighbourhood, and we shape our support around the rhythm of your household rather than asking you to fit into ours. Our specialisms reflect the diverse needs of the people we support. We offer thoughtful, skilled care for adults living with learning disabilities and autism, taking time to understand communication preferences, sensory needs, and personal goals. We support people with physical disabilities to maintain mobility, comfort, and choice throughout their day, and we work sensitively with those who have visual or hearing impairments, adapting how we communicate and organise the home environment to promote confidence and safety. We are also experienced in supporting younger adults, recognising that care in earlier life stages calls for aspiration, opportunity, and encouragement, not simply routine. In practice, this means our support might look like helping someone prepare for college or work, accompanying a person to a favourite hobby, assisting with personal care in a way that feels calm and unhurried, or working alongside families to plan meaningful activities and outings. We collaborate closely with relatives, healthcare professionals, and advocates so that everyone involved in a person's life feels informed, listened to, and reassured. We are proud to hold an Outstanding overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, with Outstanding marks in the Caring, Responsive, and Well led domains, alongside Good ratings for Safe and Effective. This recognition, awarded at our most recent inspection, reflects the culture we work hard to nurture every day: a team that genuinely knows the people it supports, responds thoughtfully to changing needs, and is led with clear values and ambition. For families, an Outstanding rating offers meaningful reassurance that the care being provided has been independently reviewed and found to go beyond expectations, particularly in how our staff build relationships and adapt to each person's individual circumstances. Choosing home care is a significant decision, and we know families often come to us feeling uncertain about what the right next step looks like. We are here to listen without pressure, to answer your questions honestly, and to help you understand what support might be possible for your loved one. If you would like to learn more about how we could help, please do get in touch. We would be glad to talk things through at your pace and to begin building a plan of care that truly fits your family's needs.

    • Home Care

High Street Sandy provides care and support in people's own homes in Sandy and the surrounding part of Central Bedfordshire. We work with younger adults who need help to live independently. We take the word support seriously and try hard not to let it slide into doing things for people. The first conversation is about somebody's life rather than their difficulties: what a good week looks like, what stands in the way of it, and what they would much rather manage themselves. The rota comes after that, never before. In practice that often means somebody alongside a person rather than doing things for them. At college, at work, on the bus, at an appointment, or through the difficult early weeks of living independently for the first time. It also means the ordinary business of running a household: cooking, shopping, keeping on top of post and bills, getting to places on time. Consistency is what we work hardest at. The same small team stays around a person, changes get proper notice, and we stick to what we agreed even when it is inconvenient for us. Knowing what is coming is a large part of what makes support workable. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection, and we keep asking the people we support whether we are doing what we said we would.

    • Home Care

At Mobelle Home Care, we support people in Sandy and across Central Bedfordshire to live well in the comfort of their own homes. We know how much it means to stay somewhere familiar, surrounded by your own belongings and routines, and our work is built around making that possible for the people we support. We provide care and support for older people, individuals living with dementia, people with learning disabilities or autism, those with physical disabilities, and people with visual or hearing impairments. Every person who comes to us has their own story, their own preferences, and their own way of doing things, and we take the time to understand what matters most to each individual before we do anything else. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as Good, which we are genuinely proud of. It reflects the effort our whole team puts in, not just on good days, but consistently, and it gives the people we support and their families confidence that they are in safe hands. What we hear most from families is that they wanted someone they could trust to treat their loved one with real respect and kindness, not just go through the motions. That is what we aim to do. We communicate openly, we listen when things need to change, and we try to be the kind of care provider that families feel comfortable picking up the phone to. If you are thinking about care at home for yourself or someone close to you, we would be glad to have a conversation about what we can offer. There is no pressure and no rush. We would simply like to help you work out whether Mobelle Home Care is the right fit, and take things from there at a pace that suits you.

    • Home Care

We are the reablement, urgent homecare and falls response team based in Shefford, working across Central Bedfordshire. Our job is to help people stay in their own homes at the moments when that becomes difficult, whether that is after a fall, after a hospital stay or when things have quietly become harder to manage. Reablement is short term and deliberately so. We come in, work out what someone is struggling with, and then help them get back to doing as much of it themselves as they can. That might mean practising getting in and out of a chair safely, rebuilding confidence on the stairs, sorting out equipment, or simply being there while someone tries something again for the first time. Doing less for people, so they can do more for themselves, is the point. The falls response side of our work means we can reach people who have fallen and are uninjured but cannot get up, which spares a long wait and an unnecessary trip to hospital. We then look at why the fall happened and what can be changed. We support older people, people living with dementia, adults with a physical disability, people with visual or hearing impairment, and younger adults who need help at home. Our visits are arranged around the person's own routine wherever we can manage it. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families and professionals are welcome to get in touch to talk through what we can offer.

We at Walkers Close are proud to offer dedicated home care in the welcoming town of Shefford, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism to live well within the comfort and familiarity of their own homes. As a home care provider serving Central Bedfordshire, we bring compassionate, personalised support directly to those who need it most. Based in the SG postcode area of Shefford, our team works throughout the local community, delivering care where our residents feel most at ease: at home. Shefford itself is a friendly market town nestled in Central Bedfordshire, offering the kind of settled, community minded environment that helps individuals thrive. By providing care in each person's own living space, we enable those we support to remain surrounded by their own belongings, routines, and neighbourhood connections, whilst still receiving the professional support they require day to day. Our specialism lies in supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism, and this shapes everything we do. We understand that no two people experience the world in the same way, and our approach reflects that. In practice, this means taking time to truly understand each person we support: their preferences, their communication style, their goals, and the small daily details that bring comfort and confidence. For families, this offers genuine peace of mind. You can trust that your loved one is being cared for by people who recognise the importance of consistency, patience, and respect for individual identity. Whether it is help with daily living tasks, encouragement to pursue hobbies and interests, support with community involvement, or simply reassuring companionship, we tailor our approach to fit the person, not the other way around. We also recognise that family involvement is central to good care. We keep lines of communication open, welcome your insights about your loved one, and work in partnership with you to ensure that the support we provide reflects what matters most to your family. As a newer provider, Walkers Close has not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, with our most recent inspection recorded in February 2024. Whilst we look forward to being formally rated in due course, we remain committed to meeting and exceeding the standards expected of us. Our team operates with transparency, professionalism, and a genuine dedication to continuous improvement, ensuring that the people we support and their families always come first. Choosing home care for someone you love is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that choice. If you would like to learn more about how we at Walkers Close could support your loved one in Shefford or the surrounding Central Bedfordshire area, we warmly invite you to get in touch. We are here to listen, to answer your questions, and to walk alongside your family as you consider the next step.

Arranging and funding home care in Central Bedfordshire

Help at home is sold by the visit, and the visit is the unit that matters. A package might be a single half hour call in the morning or four visits a day covering medication, meals and settling at night. Knowing what an agency is registered to do, and how much of the week it can realistically cover, is what separates a package that holds together from one that falls apart in a fortnight.

What these agencies provide

All fifty five providers listed here are home care agencies, offering personal care in a person's own home: washing, dressing, help to the toilet, prompting or giving medication, preparing meals and supporting someone to move about safely. Domestic help and companionship are often available alongside, though it is the personal care that is regulated. None of them provide accommodation, so where a person cannot safely be left alone between visits, the conversation usually has to widen to include residential care.

What the ratings do and do not tell you

Three agencies hold Outstanding: Care Forum (MK), Active Homecare and 1st Homecare Solutions Limited. Eighteen are rated Good, among them Bluebird care (Central Bedfordshire), Caremark Central Bedfordshire, Blue Sapphire Care Limited and Lima Homecare LTD. Six have been told they Require Improvement. Twenty eight carry no rating at all, a large share of the field, and that means only that they registered too recently to have been inspected. An unrated agency is not necessarily a poor one, but there is no independent view of it yet, so the questions you ask carry more weight than usual.

Continuity is the thing to interrogate

Families rarely complain about kindness. They complain about a different carer every visit, calls arriving an hour adrift, and nobody telephoning to say so. Ask how many carers would normally attend over a fortnight, what happens when one is off sick, whether visit times are built around the person or the round, and who picks up the phone when a call is running late.

Choosing between home care agencies in Central Bedfordshire

Requesting a care needs assessment

The assessment is free, it is not means tested, and anyone who appears to need care can ask for one, including a relative acting on their behalf. It looks at washing, dressing, meals, medication and mobility, and records what help is needed and when in the day it is needed. Central Bedfordshire Council adult social care is the authority responsible for carrying out that assessment and for deciding what funded support follows from it. Ask for the written outcome, because an agency can quote against it far more accurately than against a description given over the telephone.

Who pays, and for what

A separate financial assessment considers savings and income, and the value of a home the person still lives in is left out of account for care delivered at home. Below the national upper capital threshold the council contributes through a personal budget, which may be taken as a direct payment so the family chooses its own agency. Attendance Allowance does not depend on savings and is worth claiming in parallel.

Understanding what you will be charged

Rates are set by visit length, and short calls are usually dearer per hour than longer ones. Ask for a written rate card showing weekday, weekend and bank holiday rates, whether travel or mileage is added, how much notice is needed to change a package, and how a missed visit is treated on the invoice.

Frequently asked questions about home care in Central Bedfordshire

How many home care agencies are there in Central Bedfordshire?

Central Bedfordshire has 55 CQC registered home care agencies: 3 Outstanding, 18 Good, 6 Requires improvement, 28 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

How much does home care cost in Central Bedfordshire?

Hourly care visits, East of England: £26.00 to £34.30 an hour. Middle half of prices from 15 agencies. Median £31.88. Shown for East of England because too few Central Bedfordshire agencies publish a rate. Published prices come from agencies that publish rates, so treat them as a guide. Ask the agency for its own price.

Which home care agencies in Central Bedfordshire were inspected most recently?

Bluebird care (Central Bedfordshire) (30 June 2026), Lima Homecare LTD (10 February 2026) and MacIntyre Ampthill Support (13 January 2026) have the most recent CQC reports.

Which agencies provide home care in Central Bedfordshire?

Fifty five registered home care agencies are listed on this page, the complete field currently registered with the Care Quality Commission for this care type in Central Bedfordshire. They include national names such as Bluebird care (Central Bedfordshire) and Caremark Central Bedfordshire alongside smaller local providers including Inwood Home Care, Rysvil Care Services Limited and A Caring Company Limited. Each profile shows the provider name, the care type and the current rating where one has been given. Opening a profile is the quickest way to see what an agency is registered to provide.

What should we ask an agency before arranging home care in Central Bedfordshire?

Ask about continuity first, since it shapes the whole experience: how many different carers would attend in a typical fortnight and who covers sickness. Ask who writes the care plan, how often it is reviewed and how quickly the family hears about a change. Request the rate card in writing, covering weekends, bank holidays, travel and notice periods. Where an agency has no rating yet, ask when it registered, how long the manager has worked in care and whether you may speak to an existing client.

How does home care differ from a care home or a nursing home?

Home care comes to the person in scheduled visits and is charged by time, leaving them in their own house with their own routine. A care home provides accommodation with personal care and staff on duty day and night, which suits someone no longer safe alone between visits. A nursing home provides that too but keeps a registered nurse on site for clinical needs such as wounds, catheters or feeding tubes. Every provider listed here is a home care agency, so if visits cease to be enough it is worth asking for the assessment to be revisited.

Can Central Bedfordshire Council pay for care at home?

It can, where a care needs assessment and a financial assessment both support it. The needs assessment establishes what help is required, and the financial assessment looks at savings and income, disregarding the value of a home the person still lives in. Where capital falls below the national upper threshold, Central Bedfordshire Council contributes through a personal budget, which can be taken as a direct payment so that the family selects the agency. Families expecting to pay privately should still request an assessment, because it records the level of need.

How do we request a care needs assessment in Central Bedfordshire?

Contact the adult social care team at Central Bedfordshire Council and ask for a care needs assessment. Anybody who appears to need care is entitled to one, and a relative, friend or attorney may make the request on their behalf. It is free and savings make no difference to entitlement, so it should not be skipped even where a family expects to fund the care itself. Keep the written outcome, since it unlocks any funding and tells an agency precisely what is needed.

How soon should we start arranging home care in Central Bedfordshire?

Before the situation becomes urgent, if there is any choice in the matter. A few weeks allows time for an assessment, quotes from more than one agency and a proper look at inspection reports. Where care is being set up around a hospital discharge, the process can compress into days, and that is when earlier groundwork pays for itself. Even a shortlist of three agencies with rates confirmed will take most of the pressure out of a rapid decision.
