About Us

London Care in Brighton and Hove supports people in their own homes across the city. We work with older people, people living with dementia, people living with mental ill health, adults with a physical disability, people with visual or hearing impairment, younger adults and people affected by alcohol or drug misuse.

Nearly everyone who contacts us wants to stay where they are, and our job is to make that realistic rather than to take over. For some people that is one call each morning to help with washing and dressing. For others it is several visits a day covering personal care, medication, meals and company, or longer periods of support where needs are more constant.

We start by asking what help is actually wanted. People tend to be very clear about what they can still manage and would rather keep doing, and getting that right at the beginning is what stops support feeling like an intrusion.

Where somebody is struggling with alcohol or drugs, we support without moralising. Reliability and being treated as a capable adult do far more good than advice nobody asked for.

Continuity is where we concentrate our effort. A familiar carer who knows the flat, the routine and the person makes a visit work in a way nobody new can, and that is most true where dementia is involved.
