About Us

Dimensions Dorset provides support to people in their own homes in Poole and the surrounding area. Our work is about people having a life of their own, in their own place, with support arranged around what they want rather than around what is convenient for us.

We support adults with learning disabilities and autism, including many younger adults making the move into independent living, and we support older people who need help with everyday routines. Support might involve personal care or medication, help with cooking, cleaning, shopping and money, or going along to work, college, an appointment or a new activity until somebody feels able to manage it alone. Where our involvement can reduce over time, we treat that as the job going well.

Autism support here begins with the individual. Sensory needs, how much warning somebody wants before a change, and the particular ways a person signals that they are uncomfortable all matter more than any general approach, so we learn them, record them and keep them under review.

Communication is central. Where somebody uses signs, symbols or their own way of making themselves understood, our staff learn it, and no decision is taken about a person without a real effort to involve them.
