About Us

Farmhouse Care Agency provides care and support in people's own homes in Christchurch and the surrounding area. We visit older people, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and younger adults.

Home care is made of small dependable things rather than grand statements. Arriving at the time we said. Knowing how somebody takes their tea and which door sticks. Noticing that three days of post has gone unopened. None of that appears in a care plan and all of it is the difference between a service being delivered and somebody actually being looked after.

The practical help depends on the household: washing and dressing, medication prompted or administered, meals cooked, getting up in the morning and settled at night, keeping the house in order, shopping, appointments and getting out of the door. Some people want one visit a week and others need several calls a day.

For people living with dementia we work hard at consistency, sending familiar carers at familiar times and following the routines already in place. Where sight or hearing loss is part of things, we get the small habits right: announcing ourselves, leaving furniture where it lives, checking that glasses and hearing aids are clean and working.

At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and we keep asking the households we visit what needs to change.
