About Peel House
Peel House is a residential care home in Melksham, Wiltshire, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism and people with a physical disability. Most of the people who live here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays for those who need support for a shorter period or whose usual carer needs a break. We start from the view that the people who live here are adults with their own preferences, opinions and plans, and our job is to support those rather than to manage them. People choose how their days go, what they eat, how their rooms look and what they want to aim for. Some are working on skills around cooking, budgeting or travelling independently. Others want support to keep doing the things they already enjoy and to stay connected to family and friends. Support plans are written with each person, in whatever way of communicating suits them best. We pay careful attention to what helps someone feel settled and what causes stress, and we shape routines and surroundings around that instead of expecting people to adapt to us. We work alongside community learning disability teams, therapists and local health services so that support is joined up, and we welcome families and advocates. The Care Quality Commission most recently rated us good overall. If you would like to know more about living here, or to come and have a look round, please get in touch.
