About Applethwaite Green
Applethwaite Green is a residential care home in Windermere. We support older people who need help with daily life, including many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment, as well as younger adults who need residential care. We also offer respite stays. Being where we are is part of what we offer. The fells and the lake are on the doorstep, the garden is used properly in decent weather, and family and friends visiting for the day makes the home part of the town rather than separate from it. Residents run their own days. When to get up and go to bed, what to eat, whether to sit with others or keep to their own room with their own things around them. Rooms hold people's own furniture and photographs and nobody comes in without knocking. For residents living with dementia, consistency helps more than anything, so we keep staffing settled and learn each person's history properly, which is what lets us make sense of what they are telling us. Where somebody has limited sight or hearing, the way we approach and speak to them takes account of it. Health needs are managed alongside local GPs and community nurses, and families hear from us early when anything changes. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and look round.
