About Us

The Corner House is a care home in Worthing. We provide residential care for adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and people managing a mental health condition, mostly younger adults. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places.

The question we ask ourselves about this place is whether the people living here have lives they would recognise as their own. Not whether the building is tidy or the records are in order, though both matter, but whether somebody has friendships, somewhere to go and some genuine say over an ordinary week. If everyone's week looks the same, we have got something wrong.

So people here are involved in the shopping, the cooking and the decisions about their own rooms and their own time. Some go out to work or college, some use local groups and facilities, and some prefer a quieter life with a few things they enjoy properly. None of those is treated as the better answer.

Communication takes the most effort. Where somebody does not use speech, we learn how they tell us things, and we treat behaviour as information rather than as a difficulty to be managed.

Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Families and social workers are welcome to visit, meet the people living here and put the difficult questions to us directly.
