About Us
Here at Bywell House Care Home, we provide residential and dementia care for older people in the heart of Worthing, West Sussex. We are proud to have received a "Good" rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the genuine effort our whole team puts in every single day to make sure the people who live here feel safe, valued and at home.
We understand that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we do not take that lightly. From the moment someone walks through our doors, we want them and their loved ones to feel reassured that they are in a place where they truly belong. We take time to get to know each person as an individual, understanding their routines, their preferences, their history and what brings them comfort and joy.
Our team is experienced in supporting people living with dementia, and we work hard to create an environment that feels calm, familiar and encouraging. We believe that meaningful daily life matters enormously, and we focus on maintaining independence and dignity wherever possible, while providing the level of support each person genuinely needs.
Families are always welcome here. We think of ourselves as an extension of the people who matter most to our residents, and we encourage open communication so that everyone feels involved and informed. Whether a resident has been with us for a short time or many years, our commitment to their wellbeing remains the same.
We are based in Worthing, which is a community we are proud to be part of. If you would like to find out whether Bywell House could be the right fit for someone you care about, we would warmly encourage you to get in touch or come and visit us in person.

More about the care at Bywell House Care Home
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
Support for older people in a residential setting usually covers help with washing, dressing, continence, medication prompts or administration, and the quiet companionship that keeps loneliness at bay. Bywell House Care Home is registered with the CQC for older person care, so families can expect these fundamentals to be part of the service. When you visit, ask how morning and evening routines are organised around each resident's preferences rather than a fixed timetable. It is worth asking how medicines are recorded and reviewed with the GP, and how staff support residents who want to stay active in the local Worthing community. Ask specifically about night staffing numbers, how call bells are answered after dark, and what checks are made on residents who may be unsettled overnight.
Dementia
Good dementia care usually rests on three things: staff who understand the condition, familiar daily rhythms around meals, rest and company, and a layout that feels calm, secure and easy to navigate. Bywell House Care Home is registered for dementia care alongside residential care for older people. When you look round, ask how the team responds when someone becomes distressed or anxious, and whether they favour reassurance and distraction over medication. Ask what happens if a resident tends to walk about or tries to leave, and how doors, gardens and quiet spaces are managed. It also helps to ask how care plans are reviewed as dementia advances, and at what point they would say a person needs to move on to nursing care.
Respite Care
Respite stays are useful when a family carer needs a break, after a hospital discharge, or as a trial before committing to a permanent move. Bywell House accepts respite bookings alongside its longer term places, and most homes ask for a minimum of one to two weeks. Book early, especially around school holidays, and pack clearly labelled clothing, toiletries, medication in its original packaging, and a short life history to help staff settle the guest in.
Residential Care
Residential care at Bywell House in Worthing is aimed at older people who need daily help but not the clinical input of a registered nurse. In practice that means cooked meals, help with personal care, laundry, housekeeping, medication support and a programme of social activities, with district nurses and GPs called in when health needs arise. Nursing homes, by contrast, have a qualified nurse on site around the clock for conditions such as complex wounds, tube feeding or unstable long term illness. The home holds a good CQC rating from its January 2026 inspection. Typical weekly fees across the South East sit between around £1100 and £1450, while West Sussex County Council usually funds closer to £800 to £950 a week, so ask directly what the current rate covers and what counts as an extra.
