About Aldyn Care Home

Aldyn Care Home is in Bognor Regis, and we support adults living with mental ill health, including younger adults. Respite stays are available as well. We are a household rather than a unit, and that is deliberate. People here have their own rooms and their own belongings, and a real say over how the day goes. What we offer most of is stability: a team people come to know well, a shape to the week that holds, and a house that does not come apart when somebody has a difficult stretch. Mental health rarely moves in a straight line, and we plan for that rather than treating a bad fortnight as a failure on anybody's part. Support is agreed with the person and written in terms they recognise. Some people here need a good deal of practical help with daily living, medication and appointments. Others mainly want somewhere settled to live while they rebuild, with support available when they ask for it. We work alongside community mental health teams, GPs and social workers, and we keep asking when somebody needs something that is slow to arrive. We take people's own plans seriously. Work, study, hobbies, family, friendships and moving on to something more independent are all things to support rather than to manage around. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families and professionals are welcome to visit and ask us anything.

Safe

Staffing levels met people's needs, medicines were managed safely, risks to people were reduced and the home was clean and hygienic.

Effective

Inspectors found that people were supported to have choice and control of their lives, in the least restrictive way possible. People had good access to health services and their nutritional needs were known and met. Staff received training to support people living with mental health conditions.

Caring

Inspectors found that staff were kind. People's dignity was maintained and respected, and their independence was promoted. People's communication needs were supported so that their views on their support were understood.

Responsive

Inspectors found that people had access to activities that met their interests and were active in their local community. Staff knew people well and encouraged them to develop their skills. There was a complaints procedure in place which people knew about.

Well-led

Inspectors found that the home was well-led. There was a friendly and calm atmosphere, and staff said they felt supported. Quality assurance processes drove improvement to the support people received.

What people told the inspectors
