About Us

20 Leonard Road is a small residential care home in Waltham Forest, east London, supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We also offer respite stays for people who need a place for a shorter period.

Only a few people live here, which is deliberate. It means staff know everybody properly and the house runs at the pace of the people in it rather than to a schedule. People choose how their rooms look, take part in shopping, cooking and running the place as much as they want to and are able to, and get out to what they enjoy locally and across London.

This work is won in the detail. How much noise a room holds. Whether a change of staff or plan needs several days of warning rather than being sprung on somebody. Which form of communication genuinely reaches a person, whether that is speech, symbols, writing or simply unhurried time. We keep the staff team as consistent as we can, because a familiar person does more good here than any programme, and we train people to recognise what causes distress and prevent it rather than respond after the fact.

We work closely with families, social workers and health colleagues, and we welcome being challenged when we have misread a situation.

Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Visitors and referrers are welcome.
