About The Chestnuts Care Home

The Chestnuts is a residential care home in Normanton. We support older people and younger adults who need help with daily living, including people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. A good deal of our work lies in details that are easy to overlook. A room arranged so that somebody can manage it independently. Signs and lighting that make sense to a person with poor vision or with dementia. A hearing aid that is checked and working, because a conversation someone cannot follow is worse than no conversation at all. Equipment to hand, so that moving about does not depend on waiting for help. None of it is dramatic, and all of it decides whether a day goes well. Beyond that, we try to keep life ordinary. People choose their own routines, keep their own things around them, eat food cooked here with real choice at each meal, and have company or privacy as they prefer. Families are welcome whenever suits them, and we would rather see you often and unannounced than formally. We take respite stays, which can be a practical help after a spell in hospital or when a relative who cares at home needs a break. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated the home good overall. Anyone considering a move is welcome to visit and talk to the people who live here.
