About Respite Service
We are Trafford Respite, a short break and residential setting in the Trafford area of Manchester. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Most people come to us for a planned break. That might be because a family carer needs rest, because something has happened at home, or simply because a change of scene and different company does somebody good. Short stays have their own challenges: there is no long settling in period, so we have to get to know somebody quickly and get it right first time. We ask families to tell us everything, including the things they think are too small to mention, because those are usually the things that matter. While people are with us we want them to actually enjoy it rather than simply be safely looked after. People choose what they do, get out and about, and keep up with whatever they were doing before they arrived. We work at the pace of the person in front of us. Carers who use us regularly tell us that being able to plan a break with confidence changes how they cope for the rest of the year. We take that responsibility seriously and we try to be dependable about bookings and honest when we cannot help. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection, and we keep looking at how we could do this better.
