About Avalon

Avalon is a residential care home in Grays, supporting adults and younger adults who have a learning disability, who are autistic, or who have a physical disability or a visual or hearing impairment. The people who live here are adults with their own preferences, routines and ambitions, and we run the home on that understanding. Residents have a genuine say in how the house works, what we eat, how their support is given and what they do with their time. Our role is to make the life someone wants practical rather than to decide it for them. Support plans are written with each person, in a form they can take part in, and revisited as things change. We pay close attention to how each individual communicates, since a great deal is expressed through routine, mood and behaviour rather than words. Predictable days, respect for sensory needs and consistent staff are what keep life here settled. We encourage people to keep hold of ordinary life, whether that is family and friends, work or college, a club, or simply going out and choosing how to spend an afternoon. Where someone wants to build a skill, we support the practice rather than taking over. We also offer respite stays. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
