About Lowry House
Lowry House in Hyde is a residential home supporting adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and people with mental health needs, alongside older people. Most of the people here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. People live here for years rather than months, so we run the house as their household and think of ourselves as part of it. The people who live here decide how their rooms look, have a genuine say in what goes on the shopping list and what gets cooked, and shape the week around what they want to do. We would rather help somebody do a thing for themselves slowly than do it for them quickly. Support with personal care, medication, health appointments, money and getting about is given exactly as each person has agreed, and recorded in enough detail that a colleague new to a shift can get a morning right without being told. For anybody who finds change difficult, that consistency is the ground everything else stands on. Communication is where the real work lies. Not everybody here uses speech, and understanding how a person shows a preference, a worry or a refusal is what makes choice genuine. We learn each person's way and write it down. Where somebody is managing a mental health condition we try to be steady and clear. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
