About Stonepit Close

Stonepit Close is a small residential care home in Godalming, Surrey, supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We also offer respite stays for people who need somewhere for a short period or whose family carer needs a break. We think of ourselves as somebody's home first and a service second. People here have their own room, their own things and their own say in how the day goes. Support is there for the parts that need it, whether that is personal care, health appointments, managing money, cooking, keeping in touch with family, or getting out to the places and activities someone enjoys locally. For autistic people, and for many people with a learning disability, the environment and the predictability of the day matter enormously. We explain changes in advance and in the way that works for each person, we keep staffing as consistent as we can, and we pay attention to noise, light and the pace we are working at. Communication is on the person's terms rather than ours. We work alongside families, advocates and health professionals, and we ask the people who live here what they think, in a form they can actually engage with, rather than deciding on their behalf. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take it seriously as a standard to hold, and we are just as interested in what the people living here would change tomorrow if they could.
