About Whitebourne

We at Whitebourne are proud to offer compassionate residential care in the welcoming town of Frimley, Surrey. Nestled within the leafy surroundings of the GU postcode area, our home provides a warm and settled environment where older people and adults with a range of needs can feel truly at home. Our setting in Frimley combines the comfort of a residential neighbourhood with easy access to the wider South East, making visits from loved ones convenient whilst offering residents a peaceful base to call their own. The community feel of the area is reflected inside our home, where familiar routines, comfortable communal spaces, and quiet corners come together to create a place that feels reassuringly domestic rather than institutional. At the heart of what we do is a commitment to person centred residential care for older people, including those living with dementia. We understand that memory loss and cognitive change can be daunting for the whole family, and our approach is built around patience, familiarity, and dignity. We take time to learn each resident's life story, preferences, and small daily rituals, so that care feels personal rather than routine. Alongside our support for older people, we also welcome adults with learning disabilities and autism, those living with mental health conditions, and residents with physical disabilities. This breadth of specialism means we are experienced in tailoring support to the individual, whether that involves gentle encouragement to build independence, sensitive help with communication, or practical assistance with mobility. Our aim is always the same: to help each person live as fully and comfortably as possible, in a way that respects who they are. We also offer respite care for families who need short term support, whether that is to cover a carer's holiday, aid recovery after a hospital stay, or simply provide a trusted place to rest and recharge. Respite guests receive the same warm welcome and attentive care as our permanent residents, and many families find these stays a reassuring introduction to what longer term care with us could look like. Day to day life at Whitebourne is shaped around the people who live here. We encourage residents to spend time together in shared spaces when they wish and to enjoy privacy in their own rooms when they prefer. Meals, conversation, and gentle activity all form part of a rhythm designed to feel natural and unhurried. Families are welcomed as partners in care, and we keep open, honest communication about how loved ones are settling in and how their needs may be changing. Whitebourne holds an overall rating of Good from the Care Quality Commission, with Good ratings across all five key areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. For families, this independent assurance offers peace of mind that the care provided here meets recognised national standards and that our team is committed to doing right by every resident, every day. Choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that choice. If you are exploring residential, dementia, respite, or specialist care in Frimley or the wider Surrey area, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please get in touch to arrange a visit, ask questions, or simply have a friendly conversation about what your loved one needs. At Whitebourne, we are here to listen, to reassure, and to help you find the right way forward.

What the inspectors found

A plain English summary of the Care Quality Commission inspection behind the current rating of Whitebourne. Report published 27 April 2018.

  • 7 March 2018
  • 66 places, 45 people were using the service at the time

Safe

Inspectors found that risks were managed safely, in line with people's needs. Staff knew about the detailed plans for individual risks, and they took action to keep people safe after incidents such as falls. Medicines were managed safely, there were enough staff, and the home was clean.

Effective

Inspectors found that staff had training to feel confident in their roles. They also had regular one to one supervision meetings with their line managers. Staff sought people's consent and, where appropriate, applied the Mental Capacity Act 2005. People were supported to see healthcare professionals when needed, and their dietary needs were met.

Caring

Inspectors found that staff knew people well and involved them in their care. People received care promptly and in a dignified manner. Staff respected people's privacy and found ways to encourage them to keep their independence.

Responsive

Inspectors found that care was planned around each person, matched their needs and was reviewed regularly. People were given regular chances to say what they wished for or preferred, and staff acted on this. There was a range of activities and people had choices about food. Complaints had been investigated and responded to.

Well-led

Inspectors found that a new registered manager was in post and had made improvements to staffing, risk management and care planning. Staff felt supported by management, and the provider carried out regular checks and audits to find where improvements were needed. The provider had taken action to meet the seven legal requirements it had breached at the April 2017 inspection, and the service is now out of Special Measures.
