About Us

Brambles Care Home is a residential care home in Leigh On Sea. We are home to older people, we support residents living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for those who need care for a short period, whether after a spell in hospital or to give a family carer a proper rest.

We want life here to feel like life rather than like a routine being administered. Residents keep their own belongings and their own habits, get up and go to bed when they want, and choose how much of the day they spend in company. Meals should be something to look forward to, so we ask what people actually like rather than deciding for them.

Dementia care depends far more on patience and familiarity than on anything elaborate. Staff who know a resident's history can make sense of what they are trying to say, ease a difficult afternoon before it escalates, and offer reassurance that genuinely reaches the person. So we keep the day calm and predictable, give people time, and treat rushing as a problem rather than as efficiency.

Families are part of this too. Relatives are welcome without ceremony, and we tell them promptly when something has changed rather than waiting to be asked.

Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We look after that standard in the small things: the food, whether anyone is waiting too long, whether someone seems out of sorts. Anyone thinking about a move here is welcome to visit and see how it feels.

More about the care at Brambles Care Home

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Older Person Care

Support for older people at Brambles Care Home covers the ordinary rhythms of the day, from help with washing and dressing in the morning to prompts or hands on assistance with medication, meals and moving safely around the home. Companionship matters as much as the practical tasks, since loneliness can affect appetite, sleep and mood. Families weighing up the home should ask how mornings are actually organised, whether residents can get up at their own pace, and how many staff are on duty overnight. It is also worth asking how call bells are answered after dark, how continence needs are managed discreetly, and how the home keeps a GP or district nurse involved when health changes. Weekly fees across the East tend to sit between £1000 and £1350, with Southend on Sea council usually paying closer to £750 to £900.

Dementia

Living well with dementia depends on familiarity, unhurried routines and staff who know each resident's history well enough to spot when something is wrong before it becomes a crisis. Brambles Care Home is registered to provide dementia care alongside its wider residential service, so the layout, daily rhythm and staff response all matter when you visit. Ask how the home settles someone who is distressed in the late afternoon, what happens if a resident tries to leave or becomes disorientated at night, and how they adapt as needs change over months and years. It is also sensible to ask how life history is gathered on admission, how families are kept informed of small changes, and how medication for agitation is reviewed rather than relied upon. Regional fees generally fall between £1000 and £1350 a week.

Respite Care

Respite stays at Brambles Care Home can give a family carer a proper break or bridge the gap after a hospital discharge. Book as early as you can, since rooms go quickly around holidays, and ask about any minimum stay, usually one or two weeks. Pack clothing, toiletries, current medication in its original packaging and a list of GP and next of kin details. A short stay can also work as a trial before considering a permanent move.

Residential Care

Residential care at Brambles Care Home in Leigh On Sea is aimed at older people who need help with daily living but do not require round the clock nursing from a registered nurse. That means support with personal care, meals, laundry, medication and the social side of the day, rather than clinical interventions like wound care or tube feeding, which sit under a nursing registration. The most recent CQC inspection in December 2019 rated the home good overall. Families often ask how meals are chosen, what happens on quieter afternoons, and how the home responds when a resident's health shifts and district nurses or the GP need to be brought in. Indicative fees in the East run from around £1000 to £1350 a week, while Southend on Sea council placements are typically funded nearer £750 to £900.
