About Potter House

Potter House is a residential care home in Yeovil, Somerset. We care for older people and younger adults, including residents living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. As a residential setting our work is daily life supported well, with community health professionals involved when someone needs them. What we aim for is a house where people are known rather than managed. That sounds obvious and it takes discipline, because the pressures of a rota pull the other way. It means unrushed help with washing and dressing, medication given reliably, food worth looking forward to and staff who notice when a resident is quieter than usual. For people living with dementia we keep the routine predictable and the faces familiar, and we ask relatives for the details of a life that no assessment captures. Where sight or hearing is poor we check aids are working and adapt how we communicate. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission, and we would rather people came and saw the home than took our word for it.
