About Cambian Lufton Manor College
Lufton Manor College near Yeovil provides residential places for younger adults with a learning disability or autism. We also offer respite stays. Our setting brings together living and learning, so the support somebody receives here and what they are working towards are part of the same thing rather than running separately. Students here have their own rooms, their own routines and a real say in how their days go. Support is about making ordinary adult life possible rather than doing things for people. Cooking, shopping, managing money and appointments, getting out into Yeovil and the surrounding area, keeping in touch with family and friends, and building the practical skills and confidence that make the next step realistic. We are careful about the line between supporting somebody and taking over, because independence is quietly worn away by help that arrives too quickly. Communication matters a great deal to us. Not everybody here uses many words, and understanding a person properly takes time, attention and a willingness to be corrected rather than assumptions. Plans are written with the person and changed when they stop fitting, and we work closely with families and with social work and health colleagues. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep examining our practice around choice and independence. If you are considering a place or a respite stay with us, please come and visit and meet the people who live here.
