About The Knowls

The Knowls is a residential care home in Taunton supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults who are building a life of their own. It is a house, run as a home, and the people who live here are involved in how it works from day to day. We plan support one person at a time. Some residents want help with most parts of the day; others need very little practical support but rely on us for structure, encouragement and staff who understand how they communicate and what a difficult day looks like for them. We take time over that at the start, and we listen to the people who know a person best rather than working from a file. Daily life means the ordinary business of a household: cooking, shopping, laundry, keeping your room how you like it, choosing what to do at the weekend and getting out into Taunton and the country around it. We support people to do what they can for themselves, even when that takes longer than doing it for them. Our staff are trained in communication and in supporting somebody who is distressed, and we keep the team settled so people are not always adjusting to new faces. Respite stays are available and give family carers a proper break. If you would like to visit, please get in touch.
