About St Georges Care Home
St Georges is a residential care home in Taunton, Somerset. We support older people and younger adults who need help with everyday life, and a number of our residents live with dementia. We aim to run a household rather than an institution, and the test of that is in small daily things. Residents keep their own belongings and their own habits, rise and retire at hours that suit them, and go on being asked about their own affairs. Our job is to supply the help that is genuinely needed and then to stand back, which requires more discipline than it might appear. Each resident's care is agreed with them and with the people closest to them, and we are deliberate about the difference between support that is welcome and support that quietly removes independence. We check rather than assume, and we revisit the arrangement as things alter. For residents with dementia we keep routines and familiar faces steady, lay out the building so finding your way does not rely on memory, and treat distress as having a cause worth tracking down. Families often spot that cause before we do, which is one good reason among several for keeping them closely involved. Our last overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. Come and see us if you are weighing up homes, preferably more than once and at different times of day.
