About Laural House

We are a residential care home in Taunton, Somerset, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism, people living with a mental health condition, people with sight or hearing loss, and older people who need residential care. Because the people who live here have very different needs, we plan support person by person. Some want a good deal of independence and use our help only for the parts of life that are difficult, such as appointments, paperwork or cooking. Others need support throughout the day, given calmly and without rush. What everybody gets is time, and staff who know them properly rather than working from a form. We put weight on the ordinary business of a household. Meals people have chosen, plans for the week that came from them, visits from family, trips out, and the freedom to have a quiet day when that is what is wanted. Where somebody finds change difficult we keep things predictable and give plenty of warning. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places, and a short stay is often a sensible way to find out whether a home suits somebody before any longer decision is made. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated the home Good. Please contact us if you would like to visit and see how things work here.
