About Us
Tudor Avenue Residential Care Home is in Richmond, and we support older people who need help with daily living, adults with learning disabilities and autistic people, people with physical disabilities, and younger adults. Respite stays are available as well.
We are a household rather than an institution, and supporting a mixed group well depends on treating each person as an individual rather than as a category. Support is agreed with the person, written in terms they recognise, and reviewed as things change. Some residents need a great deal of hands on help with washing, dressing, medication and mobility. Others mainly want a settled place to live, company when they choose it, and a house that stays steady through a difficult week.
For autistic people, predictability is a need rather than a nicety, so changes are explained in advance and staffing is kept consistent where we can. For residents with physical disabilities the emphasis is on equipment that fits and transfers handled safely and without embarrassment.
Wherever possible we do things alongside people rather than for them, because independence is far easier to keep than to win back once it has gone. We are also interested in what people want beyond the house, from college and work to hobbies, friendships and family visits.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families and professionals are welcome to visit and ask us whatever they need to know.
