About Oakdene
We are Oakdene, a residential care home in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. We support older people who need help with daily living, people living with mental ill health, people with a physical disability, people affected by alcohol or drug misuse, and younger adults whose circumstances mean living independently is no longer workable. That is a mixed group, and what holds our approach together is that we start with the person rather than with the label they arrive with. Some of the people we support have had difficult experiences of care elsewhere, and part of our job is simply to be consistent, to do what we said we would do and to keep doing it. We are not here to judge anybody's history. This is a home, so people keep their own rooms, their own belongings and as much of their own routine as they wish. Help with washing, dressing, medication and moving about is offered at the person's pace and as discreetly as possible, and we leave as much choice and control in the individual's hands as we can. Nobody is expected to join in with something simply because it is on a calendar. We also offer respite stays, which give family carers a planned break and the person staying a genuine visit. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us good overall. Family and friends are welcome, and if you are looking at homes in the Mansfield area please come and see us and ask us whatever you need to.
