About Us
Birch Hill Care Centre is a residential care home in Berwick upon Tweed. We look after older people who need daily care, including many people living with dementia, and we also support people with physical disabilities, people with a visual or hearing impairment and younger adults.
Our aim is a house that feels like a home rather than a facility. People get up when they wake, eat food they recognise and enjoy, and spend their days as they choose. For someone living with dementia, familiar faces and a routine that holds together are the greater part of good care, and so is having enough time in the day that nobody is hurried through anything at all. Relatives are welcome whenever they want to come, and we would much rather have families in and out of the building than visiting formally.
We also offer respite stays, for a family carer needing a rest or for someone recovering after a period in hospital.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was outstanding. We are proud of that and slightly wary of it too, because such a rating only means anything if it still describes the place in a year. So we keep checking our own work and we keep listening to residents and relatives who tell us when something could be better.
If you would like to look round, ring us and come at a time that suits you.
