About The Scheme

The Whitby Scheme is a residential care home in Whitby, North Yorkshire. We support older people, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people living with mental ill health and younger adults, and we offer both permanent places and respite stays. Supporting that mix of people properly means being specific rather than general. For an older resident it may mean unhurried help with personal care, safe support with moving about, medication given on time and somebody nearby at night. For an adult with a learning disability or an autistic adult it may mean a predictable routine, clear information given in good time, and help with money, appointments and getting out to work, a course or a club. For somebody living with mental ill health it may mean a settled, low pressure place to live and close work with the community mental health team. Each plan is written with the individual and reviewed properly. We try to keep the house feeling like a home rather than a service. Food is cooked here, people are asked what they want, there is somewhere quiet as well as somewhere sociable, and Whitby itself is worth getting out into. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Anyone considering a placement is welcome to visit and see how we actually go about things.
