About Us
Larpool Lane is a residential care home in Whitby, North Yorkshire. We support older people and younger adults, including people with physical disabilities, and we offer respite stays for those who need a place for a shorter period.
We keep this a home rather than a facility. Rooms belong to the people in them, with their own furniture and pictures. The day runs at the pace of those living here, there is company and activity for anybody who wants it, and a quiet corner for anybody who does not. The food is meant to be enjoyed rather than got through.
Where somebody has a physical disability, our aim is to support what they can still do for themselves rather than taking it over. That means equipment and layout that work with a person instead of against them, and staff who know when to help and when to wait. Independence lost through well meaning haste is very hard to get back.
Whitby matters to the people who live here. Many have spent their lives in this part of the coast, and we get people out when we can and bring what we can of the outside in when we cannot.
Our staff know the people here well, which is how changes in health get picked up early. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please ring if you would like to look round.
