About Hillcrest
Hillcrest is a residential home in Wellingborough supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We offer permanent places and also respite stays for people who need somewhere for a short while. The house belongs to the people who live in it, and that principle decides most of what we do. Residents choose how their rooms look, what goes on the shopping list, what they do with their time and who supports them. Where somebody needs a lot of help, we give it thoroughly. Where a prompt and a bit of patience are enough, that is all we give, because doing things for people that they can do themselves takes something away from them. Communication is at the centre of our work. Not everybody here uses speech, so we learn each person's own way of telling us what they want, what they are enjoying and what is troubling them, and we build their support around what they have told us rather than around our assumptions. Many of the people we support rely on routine and predictability, so we keep things steady and give plenty of notice when something will be different. A good week has shape to it: the ordinary domestic business of cooking, shopping and looking after the house, alongside getting out locally, seeing family and friends, and doing the things each person enjoys. Families, social workers and health colleagues are welcome to contact us and to come and see how the house works.
