About Us

Clanfield Residential Care Home is in Kettering, and we provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia and those whose physical disability means they need help to move about safely and comfortably.

We are a residential home rather than a nursing one, so what we do is the daily business of living: helping people wash and dress, making sure medication is taken properly, cooking food people actually want to eat and making sure nobody spends the day alone unless that is their preference. Some of our residents need very little from us and simply like knowing that someone is there. Others need a great deal of support and receive it without any fuss.

Dementia care here is built on familiarity. Keeping the same faces, the same routines and the same small rituals going makes a considerable difference, and we take time to learn what settles a particular person and what unsettles them.

Respite stays are available as well, whether a family carer needs a planned break, has something else to attend to, or simply wants to know their relative is in safe hands for a fortnight.

Families in North Northamptonshire find us easy to reach, and we like visitors to feel able to call in rather than book an appointment.

Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Do ring if you would like to come and look round.

What the inspectors found

A plain English summary of the Care Quality Commission inspection behind the current rating of Clanfield Residential Care Home. Report published 17 August 2022.

  • 6 July 2022, during an inspection looking at part of the service
  • 30 places, 25 people were using the service at the time

Safe

Systems and processes were in place to support people's safety. People's needs and safety were assessed and monitored, and timely referrals were made to health care professionals. Medicines were safely managed by trained staff whose competency was assessed. Staff had full recruitment checks and followed infection prevention and control guidance.

Effective

CQC rated this key question requires improvement. Some staff did not always recognise or understand the individualised support people needed, particularly at mealtimes. This meant some people did not always achieve good outcomes, as their experience of person centred care was inconsistent. Inspectors made a recommendation about person-centred dementia care.

Caring

Inspectors observed some positive staff interactions that showed kindness and compassion.

Well-led

Opportunities were available for people and family members to share their views, and feedback from relatives in a recent survey was positive.
