About Us
Baysfield Gardens Care Home is a residential care home in Wymondham, supporting older people and younger adults from across Norfolk, including people living with dementia and people who have a physical disability.
We think of ourselves as part of the town rather than a building set apart from it. People who move in have usually lived locally for years, and keeping those threads intact matters: the same newspaper, the same church, visitors who can walk round rather than make an expedition of it.
The daily work is practical. Personal care given calmly and in private. Medication managed properly. Meals cooked here and served at a table. Help to move about safely for those who need it, with the right equipment and staff who know how each person prefers to be assisted. Beyond that we try to leave as much as possible in people's own hands, because choosing when to get up, what to wear and how to spend an afternoon is no small matter when a great deal else has been taken away.
Dementia runs through much of what we do. Familiarity and calm work; correction does not. Relatives usually hold the detail that unlocks a difficult hour and we ask for it at the start.
The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. The most useful thing you can do is turn up, have a cup of tea, and talk to the people who live here rather than to a brochure.

More about the care at Baysfield Gardens Care Home
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
Sixty six places make Baysfield Gardens larger than 39 of the 43 homes nearby, where the average is 31. Registered for older person care, the home describes personal care given calmly and in private, medication managed properly, and meals cooked there and served at a table. It says it thinks of itself as part of Wymondham rather than a building set apart from it. Keeping local threads intact, the same newspaper or the same church, is given as part of that. Ask how many staff are on duty overnight across 66 places. Ask whether choosing when to get up and what to wear really stays with the resident.
Dementia
The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is 6.3 miles away in a straight line. Dementia runs through much of what this home does, by its own account, and it states plainly that familiarity and calm work while correction does not. Relatives are described as usually holding the detail that unlocks a difficult hour, asked for at the start. No inspection has taken place since the registration in August 2026, so your own visit does the testing. Ask how distress is handled and whether any part of the building is secured. Ask how staffing continuity is managed and what happens as dementia advances.
Physical Disability
Thirty two of the 43 homes nearby are rated Good or Outstanding, which this one has yet to be measured against. Physical disability is among its registered categories, and the home names the right equipment and staff who know how each person prefers to be assisted. Ask to see the bathroom and transfer equipment for the room offered.
Younger Adults
Wymondham Station is 0.7 miles from the home, as are the surgery and the pharmacy. Younger adults are on the registration alongside older people, and in 66 places the older group will dominate. Age appropriate company and activity are therefore fair things to ask about. Ask who under 65 lives there and what fills their week.
Residential Care
Norfolk usually pays about £750 to £900 a week, while fees in the East run from £1000 to £1350. Residential care means everyday living support with no nursing on site, so meals, personal care, medication and company fall to care staff. The GP and community nursing team handle clinical needs, which is the line between residential and nursing care. The kitchen holds the top food hygiene rating of 5 out of 5, shared by 35 of the 39 local homes that have one. Since the council rate sits below the private range, establish early who would pay any top up. Ask how the home judges when residential care is no longer enough.
