About Us
St Edmunds Residential Home is in Gorleston, Norfolk. We provide residential care for older people who have reached the point where living alone has become difficult, and caring for people living with dementia is a large part of what we do.
We are deliberately clear about what we are. This is not a nursing home. It is a place to live, where the parts of the day that have become hard are taken care of and the rest still belongs to the person. Staff are here through the night as well as the day to help with washing, dressing and medication. Meals are cooked on the premises, laundry gets done, and doctors and district nurses come in when somebody needs them.
Dementia care comes down to consistency and to knowing the person. A day that runs in a familiar order, the same faces turning up and surroundings that make sense will settle somebody more reliably than any programme of activities. We take time to learn about a person's working life, their family and their habits, because that is what makes sense of things later on.
Gorleston is a good place to be, with the sea close by, and we help people get out into it where they want to go.
Respite and short stays are available.
