About Sahara Gardens

Sahara Gardens is a residential care home in Newham. Those living here include older people, many living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We support younger adults too, and we offer respite stays. A mixed household asks more of us rather than less. One routine will not suit everybody, so we work out individually what a good day looks like for each person and build from there. For some it is company and something going on. For others it is being left largely to themselves. Newham is diverse in language, faith and food, and we treat that as something to build the household around rather than to accommodate at the edges. Being spoken to in your own language, and eating food that means something to you, matter a great deal when much else has changed. Where somebody communicates differently we deal with that first and properly, because everything else rests on it. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. We ask residents and their families regularly what we should be doing differently.
