About Us
Alexander House, part of the Keychange charity, is a residential care home in Merton, south London, and we provide a home for older people who need support with daily living. Respite stays are available as well.
Being part of a charity rather than a company changes some things in practice. We were set up to meet a need rather than to grow, and what we take in goes back into the care and into the people who deliver it. We think that shows in how long our staff stay, which in turn is what gives residents some continuity.
Most of what makes a care home good is ordinary detail. Knowing which chair is somebody's. Getting the tea right. Not hurrying a person through a wash because the morning is busy. We help with personal care, dressing, medication and mobility, doing it quietly and leaving as much privacy and choice with the resident as we can.
Dementia care is a significant part of our work. We keep the daily rhythm and surroundings steady, give people time to find their words, and take trouble to learn about earlier life, because knowing what somebody did and what they loved tells us a great deal once language becomes unreliable.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and see us on an ordinary afternoon and ask us anything you like.
