About Us
The Old School House is a residential care home in Coalville, Leicestershire, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, and people living with sight or hearing loss. Most of those living here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays.
This is somebody's home first and a care setting second, and that shows in ordinary decisions rather than in anything we could claim here. People choose how their rooms look, what goes on the shopping list, when they get up and how the weekend goes. Where somebody can do something themselves, we support them to keep doing it even when stepping in would be faster.
Communication is where we start rather than where we arrive. Where a person communicates differently, whether because of a sensory impairment or for any other reason, we sort that out properly before anything else, because the rest of our work depends on it and it is the thing most often left half done.
We are careful about routine and about giving notice of change, since for many of those living here knowing what is happening is what makes a day workable.
Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would encourage you to ask how many staff have been here more than a few years.
