About Chirnside House
Chirnside House is a residential care home in Lancaster. We are a permanent home to older people, many of whom are living with dementia, and we also offer respite stays for people needing care for a short period or whose family carer needs a rest. We help with the things that have become difficult: getting washed and dressed, moving about safely, medication given properly and on time, eating and drinking well, and having somebody nearby through the night. Where dementia is part of the picture it shapes the whole house rather than one wing of it. We keep the day recognisable, keep familiar staff around people, let residents hold on to their own belongings and habits, and sit with somebody who is upset instead of arguing with them. We want to be honest with you about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather set that out plainly than have you come across it elsewhere. We know what the inspectors raised with us, we are working through it, and we will discuss any part of it with families and professionals who ask. What we are working towards is a house that feels like a home: food cooked here, somewhere quiet as well as somewhere sociable, and visitors welcome without appointment. Please come and see us and ask the difficult questions.
