About Us

Here at Rough Lee Home, we provide residential care for adults in the heart of Accrington, Lancashire. Our team supports people with a range of needs, including those living with physical disabilities, and we work hard to make sure every person in our care feels genuinely at home with us.

We believe good care comes from truly knowing the people we support. That means taking the time to understand each person's history, preferences and routines, not just their care needs on paper. Life here is built around the individual, and we encourage everyone to live as independently as possible while knowing that help is always close at hand when it is needed.

Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as Good, and we are proud of that. It reflects the effort our whole team puts in day to day, from the way we deliver personal care to the way we create a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the home. We do not take that rating for granted and we are always looking at how we can improve and develop the support we offer.

We also understand how much it matters to families and loved ones to feel confident about the care their relative is receiving. We keep communication open and honest, and we welcome family members to be as involved as they would like to be in the life of the home.

If you are considering Rough Lee Home for yourself or someone close to you, we would genuinely encourage you to come and visit us in Accrington and get a real feel for who we are. We find that meeting the team and seeing the home for yourself tells you far more than any written description ever could. We would be very happy to show you around and answer any questions you might have.

More about the care at Rough Lee Home

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Physical Disability

Support for adults with a physical disability usually involves help with mobility, transfers, personal care and daily routines, with the aim of keeping independence where possible. Rough Lee Home is registered to provide this type of care, and its most recent CQC inspection in December 2019 rated the service Good. Worth asking about are step free access, bathroom adaptations, hoists, doorway widths and whether ground floor rooms are available.

Respite Care

Booking a short break at Rough Lee Home in Accrington is worth arranging well ahead, particularly around school holidays when demand rises. Most homes ask for a minimum stay of one or two weeks, and it helps to pack labelled clothing, toiletries, medication in its original packaging and a list of routines. A respite stay can also work as a trial before deciding on a permanent move, so ask about availability, daily rates and what a typical settling in period looks like.

Residential Care

Day to day support in a residential setting covers help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and laundry, along with company and activities that keep life sociable. Rough Lee Home is registered with the CQC for residential care in Accrington, which means staff can assist with personal care but not the clinical tasks a nursing home would handle, such as ongoing wound care or PEG feeding. Fees across the North West typically fall between £800 and £1050 a week, while Lancashire County Council usually pays around £650 to £800 for people it funds, so any top up should be discussed openly. If your relative's health needs are stable and mainly social and practical, residential care tends to be the right fit. Ask how care plans are reviewed and what happens if needs increase over time.

Will they support end of life care, so there is no move at the hardest time?

Ask the home. End of life care is not listed on the register. Ask the manager whether residents can remain in the home with hospice or district nurse support.

Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.

Ask the home. We do not know whether the home has rooms for couples. Ask about shared or adjoining rooms if this matters.

Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?

Ask the home. The home has not told us which funding it accepts. Most homes take both council funded and self funded residents; ask about council rates and any top up. Use our funding calculator to check what you might pay.

Do they take younger adults as well as older people?

Ask the home. The register does not say which age groups the home supports. Ask the home.

Can I visit before deciding, and are there visiting hours?

Ask the home. Every home should welcome a visit. Call to arrange one, ideally at a mealtime or during an activity, and ask about visiting hours for family.
