About Us
Kesteven Grange is a residential care home in Hull, supporting older people and younger adults from across the city, including many people living with dementia.
Most people arrive here after a difficult stretch rather than at a moment of their own choosing, so we treat the first few weeks as the part that matters most. We learn how somebody likes their day arranged before we start arranging anything, and we expect that a person may be grieving for their own house while settling into a room here.
Once settled, what we offer is deliberately unremarkable. Food cooked in our kitchen that people look forward to. Personal care given without fuss and in private. Medication managed properly. Warm rooms that look like somebody's own. Staff awake at night. A household with enough rhythm to give the day a shape, and nobody obliged to take part in anything.
Dementia care is a large part of our work and we have settled views about it. Correcting somebody about the year, or about where a long dead husband has got to, helps nobody at all. Familiar faces, an unhurried house and enough knowledge of a person's life to find the thread of a conversation help a great deal. Relatives hold most of that knowledge and we ask for it early.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take it as a floor rather than an achievement. Visit us at a busy time and ask the residents what they think.

More about the care at Kesteven Grange
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
Learning how somebody likes their day arranged before arranging anything is how this Hull home describes its first few weeks, on the understanding that most people arrive after a difficult stretch rather than by choice. After that it offers food cooked in its own kitchen, personal care given without fuss and in private, medication managed properly, and warm rooms that look like somebody's own. Kesteven Grange says staff are awake at night and that nobody is obliged to take part in anything. Ask how many staff are awake overnight and what they are able to do. Ask also how a washing and rising routine is written down, and who to speak to when it slips.
Dementia
The rating on this address is good, from an inspection back in October 2017, but the current registration dates from 11 May 2026 under the provider WT NB OpCo 1, so that judgement may belong to an earlier operator. Dementia is a large part of the work and the home has settled views: correcting somebody about the year, or about where a long dead husband has got to, helps nobody, while familiar faces, an unhurried house and knowledge of a person's life help a great deal. It adds that relatives hold most of that knowledge. Ask how distress and attempts to leave are handled, and how care changes as dementia advances. Ask what training staff receive.
Younger Adults
Kingston upon Hull usually pays about £650 to £800 a week towards a placement, which is the figure behind most funded moves here. Younger adults are named on the registration alongside older person and dementia care. Ask how many residents under 65 live at the home now, and what the week holds for somebody that age.
Residential Care
Up to 54 people live at Kesteven Grange, against indicative Yorkshire and Humberside fees of £800 to £1050 a week. Residential care covers everyday living support without nursing: meals, personal care, help with medication and a household with enough rhythm to give the day a shape. What it does not include is a qualified nurse on the premises, so wound care or an unstable condition would point towards a nursing home instead. Ask what the home does if a resident's health moves beyond residential care. Ask too who meets any difference between the council rate and the home's own fee, and how a fee review is handled.
