About Us
Here at Churchill House, we provide residential care for people in the heart of Hull, supporting older adults, younger adults, and those living with dementia. We also offer respite care for those who need a short break from their usual arrangements, whether that is following a stay in hospital or simply giving family members some time to rest.
We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we do not take that lightly. Our aim is for everyone who comes through our doors to feel genuinely at home, treated with dignity and respected as an individual. We take time to get to know each person, understanding their routines, preferences and what matters most to them in their daily life.
Our team works hard to create an environment that feels warm and familiar rather than institutional. We want residents and their families to feel comfortable speaking openly with us, raising questions or concerns at any point. We believe good care is built on honest, ongoing conversations.
We are transparent about the fact that our most recent CQC rating was "requires improvement", and we want to be straightforward about that. We have taken the feedback seriously and are actively working through the areas identified, making changes and monitoring progress carefully. We think families deserve to know this, and we would rather have that conversation openly than gloss over it.
If you are considering Churchill House for yourself or a loved one, we warmly encourage you to come and visit us. Walk around, ask questions, and get a feel for the place. We are based in Hull and are always happy to talk through how we might be able to support you or your family member. Please do get in touch.

More about the care at Churchill House
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
Help with washing, dressing, medication and simply having someone to talk to makes up most of what older residents need, and Churchill House in Hull is registered for exactly that. Mornings and evenings are the busiest points in any home, so families do well to ask how many carers are on duty at those times and how many stay awake overnight. Ask too whether residents choose when they rise and go to bed, since fixed routines suit some people and frustrate others. The Care Quality Commission rated the home requires improvement after its inspection in December 2022, and the home says itself that it has taken that feedback on board. A fair question is what has changed since. Fees in Yorkshire and Humberside commonly range from £800 to £1050 a week.
Dementia
Familiar surroundings, predictable rhythms and staff who know a person's history do more for someone with dementia than any single facility. Churchill House holds a dementia registration, which tells you the home may accept those referrals but nothing about how it supports them, so the questions matter. Ask how the team responds when a resident becomes distressed or frightened, what they do if someone repeatedly tries to leave, and whether staff have had specific dementia training. It is also fair to ask whether the home can keep supporting a resident as dementia advances, or whether a move would eventually be needed. Layout counts as well, since a calm, secure space with clear sight lines helps people find their way without being stopped at every turn.
Younger Adults
Adults under sixty five living somewhere most residents are decades older can find the day empty rather than restful, which is why the younger adults registration Churchill House holds deserves a close look. Ask who else of a similar age lives there now, what they do with their time, and whether going out independently is supported. Work, study, exercise and friendships outside the building all matter at that stage of life.
Respite Care
Booked weeks or months in advance, a short stay gives a family carer a genuine rest and gives the person staying a low risk look at life in a home. Churchill House is registered for respite, and typical minimum stays run from one to two weeks, with popular holiday periods taken first. Bring everyday clothes, toiletries, medicines in their dispensed packaging and a few personal items for the room.
Residential Care
Residential registration covers the domestic side of life rather than clinical treatment, which means cooked meals, laundry, help with personal care and organised company during the day. Nursing homes differ because a registered nurse must be on duty, and that matters for anyone needing wound care, injections or help with a swallowing problem. Churchill House is registered for residential care, so a family whose relative may later need nursing should ask early what happens if health declines. Activities, outings and how residents spend an ordinary afternoon are worth asking about directly, because the public register says nothing about them. Kingston upon Hull usually funds placements at roughly £650 to £800 a week, below the regional private range, so ask whether a third party contribution would be expected.

Can Mum or Dad stay here if their dementia gets worse?

Ask the home. End of life care is not listed on the register. Ask the manager whether residents can remain in the home with hospice or district nurse support.
Can she bring her cat or dog?
Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.
Can a couple stay together?
Ask the home. We do not know whether the home has rooms for couples. Ask about shared or adjoining rooms if this matters.
Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?
Ask the home. The home has not told us which funding it accepts. Most homes take both council funded and self funded residents; ask about council rates and any top up. Use our funding calculator to check what you might pay.
Do they take younger adults as well as older people?
Yes. Churchill House supports younger adults as well as older people. Source: CQC register
Can I visit before deciding, and are there visiting hours?
Ask the home. Every home should welcome a visit. Call to arrange one, ideally at a mealtime or during an activity, and ask about visiting hours for family.
