About Fiveways
Fiveways is a residential care home in Whitstable, Kent, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, and people living with sight or hearing loss. Most of those living here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. We treat this as where people live rather than where they have been placed. People arrange their own rooms, have a real say in the food and the shopping, and are involved in how the household runs. Where somebody can do a thing themselves, our job is to make that possible rather than to do it faster on their behalf. Communication is where we start rather than where we arrive. Where a person communicates differently, whether because of a sensory impairment or for any other reason, we sort that out properly before anything else, because the rest of our work depends on it. Being in a small coastal town helps, because people become known in the shops and cafes they use, and being recognised locally does more for confidence than arranged activity. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here what they would change about the place.
