About Barton Court
We are Barton Court, a residential care home in Sheerness. We care for older people and younger adults, and many of those living with us are living with dementia. We aim to feel like a house rather than an institution. People bring their own things, arrange their rooms as they like, come down when they wake rather than when a rota dictates, and spend the day in company or alone as they prefer. Nobody is obliged to join in with anything. Dementia care takes patience and it takes knowing the individual. We spend time learning about the work somebody did, the family they raised, the music they grew up with and the routines that settle them. We do not argue about what year it is or where a person believes they are going. We meet people where they are and find something worth doing together. The staff here know residents properly, which is how you notice somebody eating less or growing quieter before it becomes serious. We keep families informed and would far rather make an early call about a small concern. Visitors are welcome whenever suits them. We work alongside GPs, district nurses and social workers where they are involved, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Our most recent CQC overall rating is good. Please get in touch if you would like to come and see the home.
