About Us

We at Old School House are proud to offer a warm and welcoming residential care home in the heart of New Romney, Kent, providing specialist support for adults with learning disabilities and autism in a setting that truly feels like home.

Nestled within the peaceful surroundings of New Romney, our home enjoys the gentle pace of life that this charming Kentish town has to offer. The location provides a comforting balance of quiet residential calm and easy access to the local community, allowing residents to feel part of the wider area whilst enjoying the safety and familiarity of their own home. The character of the building itself lends a distinctive warmth to daily life, creating spaces where residents can relax, socialise, and pursue the things that matter most to them.

Our specialism lies in supporting adults living with learning disabilities and autism, and we approach this with genuine dedication and a person centred ethos. Every individual who lives with us has their own story, their own preferences, and their own aspirations, and our role is to walk alongside them as they live the life they choose. In practice, this means taking the time to understand each resident deeply, adapting routines to suit sensory needs, encouraging independence in ways that feel achievable, and celebrating every milestone along the way. Families can take comfort in knowing that communication, consistency, and compassion sit at the very core of everything we do.

Alongside our long term residential care, we also offer respite stays, providing valuable short term support for individuals whose families or regular carers may need a well earned break. Respite with us is never simply a pause; it is an opportunity for guests to enjoy new experiences, meet new people, and feel genuinely cared for during their time here. Whether staying for a few days or a few weeks, respite guests are welcomed with the same warmth and attention as our permanent residents.

Our commitment to quality is reflected in our Good rating from the Care Quality Commission, achieved across every domain assessed, including Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. For families, this independent recognition offers meaningful reassurance that the care provided here meets the standards expected by the regulator and, more importantly, by the people who trust us with their loved ones. Behind every rating is a team striving each day to do things properly, to listen carefully, and to keep the people we support at the centre of every decision.

Choosing a care home is one of the most personal decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that choice. If you are exploring options for a loved one with a learning disability or autism, or considering respite care in the New Romney area, we warmly invite you to get in touch. We would be delighted to answer your questions, share more about our approach, and help you feel confident that you have found the right place to call home.
