About Fairways Care Home

Fairways is a residential care home in New Romney, Kent. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We support younger adults too, and we offer respite stays. The important work is quiet. Noticing somebody is in pain before they say so. Spotting that a resident has stopped finishing meals. Ringing a daughter because her mother seems low. Where somebody's hearing, sight or understanding changes what works, we establish a way that suits them and keep to it consistently. For residents with physical disabilities we plan the practical side around what somebody can still manage themselves rather than what is quickest for us. For those living with dementia we protect the routine and ask families for the history that makes a person make sense to us. Relatives are part of how we work rather than visitors to it. They usually know things about a person that no assessment captures, and we ask them. Privacy is easily lost in a shared setting, so we guard it. Doors get knocked on, personal care happens behind them, and nobody is discussed within earshot of others. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Relatives are welcome unannounced.
