About Kingsley

Kingsley is a residential care home in Herne Bay, Kent, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. We also offer respite stays. Being small lets us be flexible in ways bigger settings cannot. Plans change to suit people rather than people fitting round a plan. People arrange their own rooms, have a real say in the food and the shopping, and are involved in how the place runs. Where somebody can do something themselves, our job is to make that possible rather than to do it faster for them. Where somebody wants a job, a course or a club, we treat that as the purpose of our support rather than an extra. Being in a small seaside town helps, because people become known in the shops and cafes they use, and being recognised locally does more for confidence than arranged activity. We keep records honestly, including when something has gone wrong. A tidy account of a bad day helps nobody. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here what they would change about the place.
