About Us
Wisteria Lodge is a residential care home in Watford, supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We are a home rather than an institution, and the people who live here are tenants of their own lives as much as anybody else.
Our focus is on ordinary living done well. Shopping and cooking, getting to college or to work, seeing friends and family, choosing what happens at the weekend, and having somewhere private to retreat to when the world is too loud. Support is arranged around each person, because two people with the same label can want entirely different things from a week.
We work mainly with younger adults, and we take seriously the fact that this is a stage of life for building skills and independence rather than simply being looked after. Where someone wants to do more for themselves, our job is to step back at the right pace and be there if it does not go to plan.
We also offer respite stays. A planned short stay can give a family carer a genuine break and can give the person staying with us a change of scene, new company and a chance to try living somewhere different.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you would like to visit and see how we work, you would be very welcome.
