About Us

We are the United Response home on Lemsford Road in St Albans, Hertfordshire, where we support adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, and people with physical disabilities. Alongside the people who live here permanently, we are able to offer respite stays.

The way we work comes down to a simple principle: this is somebody's home and somebody's life, and our role is to support the life they want rather than to organise one for them. That means people are involved in the decisions that affect them, from what happens today to bigger choices about where their life is heading. Where somebody communicates differently, we take the time to learn how, and we make sure that support plans reflect what the person has actually told us.

Practical support covers whatever is needed, whether that is help with personal care and medication, support to move around safely, assistance with cooking and looking after the house, or help to manage money and appointments. Just as important is what happens beyond the front door: getting out locally, keeping up with friends and family, and taking part in the things people enjoy in and around St Albans.

Our staff are trained for the specific needs of the people they support and receive regular supervision, and we keep the team consistent so that people are supported by faces they know well. Families, social workers and health professionals are welcome to contact us at any point.
