About Us
We are Chiswell Residential Home in St Albans, Hertfordshire. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with a mental health condition, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places.
Residential care means supporting people with the parts of daily life that have become hard work and leaving the rest where it belongs, which is with them. Washing and dressing, meals, medication, moving about safely, and the ordinary company that makes a day worth having. Where health needs go beyond our registration we work with district nurses and GPs, and we are straightforward with families about where that boundary falls.
Living with a mental health condition does not stop being part of somebody's life when they move into residential care, and a good placement makes room for it. Some weeks are steadier than others. What helps is a settled environment, staff who do not take a difficult day personally, and a routine that people can lean on.
Respite guests are assessed and welcomed exactly as permanent residents are, whether they are recovering from illness or giving a family carer a break.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
