About Blaydon Lodge
Blaydon Lodge is a residential care home in Blaydon on Tyne. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, and we offer respite stays for people who need a short break or whose family carer needs one. The house belongs to the people who live in it and we try to make that plain from the moment you walk in. Everyone has their own room and their own belongings, and a say in how the place is run, from the shopping list to what happens at the weekend. Support is planned with each person, in a form they can use, covering how they like to be supported, what they enjoy, what they find difficult and what they want their week to contain. People get out into Blaydon and across to Newcastle and Gateshead, keep up college, work, clubs and family contact, and supporting that is the point of the place rather than an extra when the rota allows. Communication is where we put most of our effort. Where somebody does not use speech, we learn how they do tell us things and make sure every member of the team can read them confidently. When someone becomes distressed we treat it as communication and look for the cause, and anything that limits a person's freedom is agreed formally, recorded and reviewed. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall. We were glad of it and treat it as a standard to keep meeting. Families and advocates are welcome to visit.
