About Us
We are Down Hall Residential Home in Southminster, Essex. We support older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, people managing a mental health condition, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we offer respite stays.
A home with that mix of people in it cannot run on one routine, and we do not try to make it. What works instead is knowing each person well enough that their day makes sense to them. The skill is holding all of it together without anybody's needs being quietly traded away for somebody else's.
Where dementia and a sensory impairment occur together, we check the simple explanation first. A hearing aid that is not working accounts for a great deal that would otherwise be recorded as confusion.
Where a mental health condition is part of the picture, the same principles apply: consistency, staff who do not take a difficult day personally, and a routine that is there to lean on rather than to enforce.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
